I’ve been loving simple floral arrangements lately, like this sunflower and these purple campanula — commonly known as bell flowers — from a bouquet I bought at a farmer’s market in Austin. 

I prefer to paint flowers with clearly defined forms (like campanula and sunflowers), compared to say, carnations, which are basically a pile of ruffles! I find those kinds of flowers harder to render in paint because they feel amorphous to me.

Speaking of the bell shape, “campanula” is Latin for “little bell”. Is that adorable or what?
