I love the color palette of this painting, but I also love the shapes that emerged. I created this painting in layers in order to bring depth and texture to the piece. One of the fortuitous things that happened in the process is that when I sanded down the very first layer of paint, a crescent moon and sun (or is it star?) emerged. I was delighted by these shapes, and decided not to paint over them, keeping them visible in the completed painting.
