Sometimes, my inspiration for a painting is a single color that draws me in. In this case, it was the contrast of cool and warm yellows that drew me to this floral setup. At the time I painted this, I had just added a new color to my palette — cadmium yellow light (you’ll see it mainly in the yellow table cloth) and I couldn’t wait to play with it. In terms of color temperatures, this is considered a “cool” yellow. It’s quite different than the warm yellows of the sunflowers. By the way, painting the dots and stripes was a lot of fun!
